Founded in 1912 under the name Fiat Aviazione, Avio is based in Turin Italy and operates both within the civil and military aerospace sectors. The company began life developing aeroplane engines at the beginning of the 20th century. 100 years later, the Avio is a subcontractor for the Arianespace Ariane 5 and the primary contractor behind the European Vega expendable launch system. In addition to their work on the Ariane 5 and Vega launch vehicles, Avio were subcontractors on the Ariane 3 and Ariane 4 and are part of the team working on the next-generation Ariane 6.
