The Timex Snoopy in Space watch collection is a collaboration of two American icons to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing. The collection includes three distinct styles each featuring Snoopy the Astrobeagle exploring the Lunar surface.
Following the Apollo 1 fire, NASA was desperate to rebuild an Apollo program that now appeared to be in jeopardy. The agency decided to approach Charles Schulz, creator of Peanuts, for permission to use the comic’s beloved Snoop character as their new safety mascot. Schulz agreed and in 1968, a silver Snoopy pin traveled with every astronaut as they launched into space. On returning to Earth, these pins were presented as a highest honour to personnel who had worked to keep the astronauts safe.
Although much of the Apollo 11 celebrations have come and gone, Timex has created three Snoopy in Space watches based on the watchmakers MK1, Standard and Weekender collections. As of writing, on the Standard has been released.
The Snoopy in Space Standard comes in white and black and features Snoop planting a US flag into a red Moon. The watch features a 40mm polished silver-tone case, a 20mm lug width, mineral glass, and a simple quartz movement.
The Snoopy in Space Standard is available from the Timex website for $89.
